Gifts for Gardeners

Gardeners have diverse interests. There are several types of gardens: fruit gardens, container gardens, flower gardens, herb gardens, and vegetable gardens. The type of garden depends on the space the gardener has to create their dream as well as their specific interests.

Some gardeners specialize within these types of gardens. A gardener may be interested in growing one particular type of flower and it may be grown in a greenhouse and not outside. Many flower gardeners plant beds outside and want plants that will make the space look good year-round in the climate they live in.

Gardeners who have large spaces tend to grow vegetables and miniature fruit trees. Gardeners who live in condos and apartments tend to have window boxes and container gardens if they have a patio.

Whatever their interest, there are a number of gifts you can get for a gardener including tools, books, magazine subscriptions, and games.

Gifts such as a harvest basket, bedding plants, soil test kits, gardening charts, hats, and gloves, or a gift certificate to a favorite nursery or catalog (in their local community or online) make nice gifts for the general gardener.

If your gardener plants vegetables, you may consider tomato stakes, books on canning and freezing, vegetable cookbooks, or seed catalogs.

Gifts for GardenersFlower gardeners like their gardens to look good year-round. When the winter climate is very cold, the foliage of a plant that blooms in the fall may provide color during the winter months. Gifts for the gardener include bulbs or bedding plants, flower-arranging materials, unusual vases, and garden ornaments.

For gardeners with limited space in condos or apartments, you can give herb kits, a collection of pots, a window box, a plant stand, or a small greenhouse.

Before buying a gift for the gardener, be sure you know their taste and the type of gardening they are involved in. You do not want to give vegetable seeds to someone whose only interest is perennials or annuals. There are always new tools being introduced for the gardener. Surprise the gardener.
